Misadventures in Life: Ocular Migraine

You know, ocular migraines kind of suck. Not quite dinosaur-trapped-in-a-tar pit level of suck, mind you, but fairly suck none the less.

So, it went down like this; I'm sitting here feeling all smug about getting more seeds started in mini-greenhouses for the garden, feeling accomplished and all that jazz when something starts to seem not quite ... right. There was this spot or something  just sorta lurking at the edge of my vision! This sort of transparent, non-distinct thing that was taking up residence stage right of my field of vision. It was just faint enough that I figured it was a floater of some variety, or one of those heeblie-jeeblies inducing micro-organisms that think your eyeballs are just the best place ever to hang out.  So I spent the next few minutes staring into space trying to identify for sure where the heck this whatever was in my vision, or if I was just having my mind play tricks on me.

Then it got bigger.

About now I was thinking to myself "Huh, I may be having an ocular migraine" and was musing of this possibility to several friends over AIM.

Then I realized I couldn't see well enough to type.

This transparent sort-of crescent shaped distortion had grown and migrated enough that it was impeding my vision enough that while I could still see, I could not see the letters well enough as I typed them to tell if I was spelling anything correctly. It was like trying to see through a miniature blob-monster that was attacking my eyes. Disconcerting to say the least.

Slowly my field of vision cleared and the distortion receded in all of it's shimmery, blurry, rainbow hued glory off to the right where it eventually faded away.

Now, as the adrenaline crash from the ordeal hits, I do not think I am getting anything else of worth done tonight. All of these jar charms will have to wait for finishing until another day.

Belladonna's Requiem

Mass for the Death of the Beautiful lady

There once was a woman, beautiful and fair,
To whom no other could quite compare,
But her vanity was fiery and wild,
Nothing of her was demure or mild,
And this would be her downfall.

They found her beneath the silvered moon,
Laid in repose, caught in a swoon,
But upon closer inspection they did see,
flawless and pale, dead and cold, was she.
For she had taken a deadly tincture.

Now they sing at the requiem mass,
Of the belladonna, of the beautiful lass,
Of the woman who died in the vale
having sought the dwale,
Of Deadly Nightshade.

The lust for the perfection of beauty has been the downfall of many a vain and prideful spirit. The beautiful woman was not exempt of this fate, as her own demons of vanity lured her to overdose on deadly nightshade in the attempt to perfect her own beauty.

Belladonna's Requiem: Mass for the Beautiful Lady is a line of capsule jewelry available on Etsy, that captures the lore of deadly nightshade, throws in a little occult, a touch of steampunk, and combines it all together into something unusual and unique.

Steampunk, Deadly,and Unusual Jewelry

Jewelry making is an adventure, and it is one that I have been on for the better part of a decade. It has only been in the past year though, that I have sat down and really looked into getting the things I make out there.

Much of what I create tends to wander into the realms of Steampunk and Gothic in style, incorporating heavily brass, copper, re-purposed salvaged items such as watch parts, earth tones, leather, deadly nightshade, glass bottles, and a variety of semi-precious to precious gemstones. It all comes together into something that is uniquely my style, born of imagination and experimentation and a desire to create something  new, and sometimes potentially deadly.

Jewelry though, is not all of what Darcarin Studios is. From time to time other creative works may pop up, both for sale in the Etsy shop, or just to display a new project I am working on. Vinyl decals, steampunk wrist cuffs, drawings, paintings, digital artwork, and 3D illustrations are examples of what may appear.

So, keep checking back, you never know what might show up here!
